How are your doors measured?

Our sizes are measured from outside of jamb to the outside of the jamb. For example, a 72” x 96” iron door listed on our website means that 72” is the width from outside to outside of jamb (not the actual width size of the door) and 96” is the height from outside of jamb to bottom of our built-in steel threshold (not the actual height of the door).

We recommend the rough opening of the width to be 1/2” to 1” wider than the door size ordered to give the installer enough room to comfortably position the jamb into place and have enough room to make sure the jamb is leveled.

Do you do the installation?

We do not do installations. We do have a 3rd-party installer recommendations list we can provide to you.

Do you have an installation guide you can provide?

Yes. We have an easy-to-use step-by-step installation guide provided to all customers after the transaction has been completed.

How many people do you typically need to install the iron doors?

We recommend at least 2 able-bodied people for your installation. Depending on your door size, this number should increase to avoid any complications.

What is a low-e glass?

The “E” in low-e stands for emissivity — the ability to emit radiant energy. Low emissivity or low-e glass is a coating of microscopically thin metal layers deposited on a door glass surface to keep the heat on the same side of the glass from which it originated.

What are the benefits of low-e glass?

Improved energy efficiency: In addition to reducing heat loss during winter months, low-e glass also reduces heat gain during the air-conditioning season.

Less UV damage: By blocking most ultraviolet (UV) radiation, low-e glass helps protect fabrics, leather, carpeting, artwork, and finishes from the fading effects of sunlight.

Reduced condensation: Condensation on door glass can be a problem during the heating season, as warm air comes into contact with cold door glass and gives up its moisture, forming water droplets on the glass surface. Low-e glass will minimize or eliminate this unwanted condensation.

What is the thickness of the glass that you use on your doors?

Tempered dual pane glass. There is a spacer in between each 1/4” thick glass that makes the total thickness of the tempered dual pane glass 5/8”. The front exterior side glass is the design glass style you chose, and the back interior side glass is clear. Glass is included with order.

What type of glass do you use?

5/8” dual pane tempered glass.

What is tempered glass?

Tempered glass is defined as toughened glass that has been treated by heat or chemicals to increase its strength. Tempered glass is about four times stronger than “ordinary,” or annealed, glass. Unlike annealed glass, which can shatter into jagged shards when broken, tempered glass fractures into small, relatively harmless pieces. Tempered glass has many benefits and uses, which makes it a popular glass used in many home and commercial building projects.

What are the benefits of a tempered glass?

The most important benefit of tempered glass is safety. Tempered glass reduces the risk of injury due to its nature of breaking into small, circular pieces instead of sharp, jagged shards.

Another benefit of tempered glass doors is ease of clean-up if they ever do break. As mentioned above, tempered glass breaks into small fragments instead of large, jagged pieces. This allows you to simply sweep up the glass instead of having to carefully pick up sharp pieces. The small glass pebbles of tempered glass can also be vacuumed to ensure all pieces have been cleaned up.

A final benefit of tempered glass is its strength. Because the process of heating and applying chemicals strengthens the glass, tempered glass is an excellent choice for doors and any other projects where maximum durability is desirable.

What is a dual pane glass?

Insulating glass (IG), more commonly known as double glazing (or double-pane), consists of two glass panes separated to help reduce heat transfer across a part of the building envelope.

What are the benefits of a dual pane glass?

Double-paned doors have two sheets of glass in a door frame instead of just one. Between the glass panes is a small space to provide insulation. The small space between window panes is filled with insulating gas to further increase insulation.

What is the glass size?

The front exterior side glass is the design glass style you chose, and the back interior side glass is clear. Each tempered dual pane glass is 1/4” thick. Tempered dual pane glass (including the spacer in between the two glasses) is a total of 5/8” in thickness. The dual glass comes installed on the door.

What is a “RHI” right hand in swing if I have a double door?

(RHI) Right hand in swing: You are facing the door standing outside, exterior side, of the door. The handle or lock will be on your left side, the hinges will be on the interior right side of the door, and the door will swing towards the inside from left to right. When the door is at its open position, the door will be resting on the right interior side.

What is a “LHI” left hand in swing if I have a double door?

You are facing the door standing outside, exterior side, of the door. The handle or lock will be on your right side, the hinges will be on the interior left side of the door, and the door will swing towards the inside from right to left. When the door is at its open position, the door will be resting on the left interior side.

What is a “RHO” right hand out swing if I have a double door?

Please advise your installer before the installation day if you are in need of the door taking advantage of its full opening capability.

How far can the single door swing?

Swing capacity: 180 degrees
This measurement shows the amount in degrees the hinge of the door allows for the door to fully open. Please note, every project site is different, and this is solely dependent on nothing on site blocking the opening space of the door and the installation method your installer chooses to install the product. Please advise your installer before the installation day if you are in need of the door taking advantage of its full opening capability.

What is a “RHO” right hand out swing if I have a bi-fold door?

(RHO) Right hand out swing: You are facing the bi-fold door standing outside, exterior side, of the door. The bi-fold door will begin to fold towards the outside from left to right. When the bi-fold door is at its open position, the door will be stacked on the right exterior side.

What is a “LHO” left hand out swing if I have a bi-fold door?

(LHO) Left hand out swing: You are facing the bi-fold door standing outside, exterior side, of the door. The bi-fold door will begin to fold towards the outside from right to left. When the bi-fold door is at its open position, the door will be stacked on the left exterior side.

Is the jamb included with the door order?

Yes. The jamb is included and packaged separately from the door.

What gauge materials are used for the door and jamb?

The jamb is constructed with 12-gauge tube (above industry standard).

How is the jamb insulated?

Polyurethane foam core is filled in the jamb for greater insulation.

Is the threshold included with the order?

Yes. The steel threshold is included and it comes welded on the jamb.

Do you have tabs on the jamb to make the installation easier?

Yes. Tabs come welded on the jamb with pre-drilled holes to allow for easy installation.

What type of hinges do you use?

Steel weld-on bullet hinges with grease fittings come welded on the jamb and door. This allows customers to comfortably open our doors, but still feel the quality with each and every use.

We use welded steel bullet hinges with copper crush washers instead of ball bearing hinges. Ball bearings are made out of stainless steel (a harder material), while the hinges and doors are made out of steel (a softer material). Over time, this causes the hinge to wear. With copper crush washers, the washer becomes the soft point and they are easily replaceable over time if needed.

What lock is compatible with the Air 4 & Air 5?

Our Weslock Elegance – Atteberry is compatible with the Air 4 & Air 5 design.

Do you offer locks & are they included with a door purchase?

Yes, we do offer a wide variety of locks. Locks are sold separately.

What is your lock bore hole specs?

If you choose to purchase your hardware/lockset from a third-party vendor, please make sure to provide them with the following specifications to ensure that your desired lockset will be compatible with our doors:

  • Bore hole size: 2 1/8”

  • Back set: 2 3/4”

  • Center to center: 5 1/2”

  • Door thickness: 2”

In-stock single doors come with two pre-drilled bore holes (one active lock needed) unless otherwise specified.

In-stock double doors come with two pre-drilled bore holes on each door (one active lock and one dummy lock needed) unless otherwise specified.

Locks purchased from Pinky’s Iron Doors do not come installed on the door upon delivery or shipment. The reason for this is that they may get damaged during the delivery or shipment process. The installer will need to install the lock after the door installation is complete.

What is the bore hole?

Bore hole: A bore hole is the doorknob hole that is drilled on the face of the door with a hole saw. The hole is drilled halfway through from each side. The hole saw is also used to drill the cross bore, otherwise known as the latch hole. Both doorknob and latch holes come completed and drilled with every in-stock order to help your installer install the lock with ease.

What is the center to center?

Center to center: The vertical distance measured between the center-points of the two bore holes. In other words, it is the measurement from the middle of the top bore hole to the middle of the bottom bore hole. This measurement is used to determine where a bore for the deadbolt is located above the bore for the latch.

This information is important to help our customers purchase the correct compatible lock if you choose to purchase them from an outside hardware store. We have already done the homework for you by specifying the Pinky’s locks that are compatible with your door if you choose to purchase the locks from Pinky’s Iron Doors.

What is the back set?

Back set: The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the 2-1/8” bore hole. The backset measurement is important to help our customers purchase the correct compatible lock with the correct latch size.

We have already done the homework for you by specifying the Pinky’s locks that are compatible with your door if you choose to purchase the locks from Pinky’s Iron Doors. Our customers do not have to purchase the locks from Pinky’s — you may purchase the locks from any local hardware store of your liking.

YES, WE CAN.  DOORS WITH REMOVABLE SCREENS ARE AVAILABLE WITH SPECIAL ORDER ONLY.

WHAT TYPE OF FINISH DO YOU USE?

WE USE AUTOMOTIVE PAINT TO COAT OUR DOORS.

GALVANIZE SPRAY IS USED TO HELP PROVIDE GREATER PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION FOR THE IRON BASE.  PRIMER AND AUTOMOTIVE PAINT IS APPLIED AFTER THE GALVANIZING SPRAY PROCESS.

ARE THE RUBBER DOOR SWEEPS INCLUDED?

YES, DOOR SWEEP LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE DOOR IS INCLUDED AND COMES INSTALLED ON DOOR.  BOTTOM SWEEPS ARE USED TO HELP SEAL THE GAP AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR DOOR TO HELP PREVENT INFILTRATION OF SOUND, LIGHT, DRAFTS, INSECTS, MOISTURE, SMOKE OR FIRE.  THE BOTTOM SWEEP IS A SIMPLE WAY TO HELP IN INSULATING A ROOM, WHICH PROVIDES COST AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS.

IS THE FLUSH LATCH INCLUDED?

YES, INCLUDED AND PRE-INSTALLED ON ALL DOUBLE DOOR ORDERS (UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED).  OUR FLUSH LATCH IS INSTALLED ON THE UPPER AND LOWER SECTIONS OF THE SECONDARY DOOR TO ALLOW BOTH DOORS TO OPEN AND OPERATE WHILE IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED?

INSTALLATION OF DOOR AND LOCKS.

LOCKS ARE SOLD SEPARATELY AND CAN BE PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEBSITE.
